In a thriving country town that services a wide community with a population of local youth of at least 900 (number of local high school students), youth facilities are few and far between. Transport issues - lack of public transport and time and distance to other centres mean that local services would be well patronised.
In recent years, many local establishments have had facelifts and raised their prices or disappeared completely. There are often young people gathered outside the chip shop but there is no welcoming cafe where they can socialise.
Alternative voices are strong in this area and local groups passionately support their interests and protest perceived threats. Environmental care, sustainability and local focus are some of the values promoted by successful local business.
With these considerations, this WebQuest challenges Business Studies students to create a business propositon for a cafe/burger bar that will cater to local youth, uphold local values and be a successful enterprise.
