In the online encyclopedia Wikipedia, music is described as "..an art form consisting of sound and silence expressed through time." We must remember though that this is only one definition of the art form. Composers, Philosophers and Musicians though, have debated what music actually is as an art form throughout recorded history. A more thorough definition is by Dr. Michael Linton who states that music is "the organization of sound and silence into forms that carry culturally derived meanings, cultivated for aesthetic or utilitarian purposes".



Many people misunderstand that music is felt not heard. This false perception can lead to incorrect analysis and stylistic interpretation of music as an art form.
